For 19 years, Pastor Schlegel has served in parish ministry on the territory of the Lower Susquehanna Synod, first at Christ Lutheran Church in York and currently serving two parishes, St. Peter's Lutheran Church in North York and Christ Lutheran Church in Manchester. Prior to 2000, she served congregations in the New Jersey Synod and in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod, her home synod.
Central Pennsylvania has played a large role in her life, beginning with family camping trips to local state parks, church retreats at Berg Haus in Cleona, and reaching to college at Susquehanna University and seminary at Gettysburg. In the middle were thirteen summers at Camp Kirchenwald, both as a camper and counselor.
In preparing for parish ministry, she took German (the better to read the works of Martin Luther) and had the opportunity to study in Germany. She enjoys languages and any kind of travel. Her hobbies are birdwatching and mystery novels, and she enjoys spending time with her son, David, who lives in Philadelphia.
In the latter half of 2019, she began serving as secretary of the Lower Susquehanna Synod. She completed her term in August of 2023.
